U.S. pop stars flood MTV Europe Music Awards

An event that is known for featuring global, rather than American musical acts, strayed from tradition at this year’s premiere.

Controversial pop star Miley Cyrus opened the show in the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam with a performance to her song “Can’t Stop”—wearing a silver spandex outfit and doing her trademark ‘twerk’ dance with a female dwarf.

Her notable act was similar to the one she performed in August at MTV’s Video Music Awards in New York.

Other notable U.S. pop star mentions included Enimem being awarded a “Global Pop Icon” award and Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis each being nominated in five categories.

The show is set to rebroadcast in the U.S. on Sunday.
