Mayor-elect Muriel Bowser has declared that she will detach the building of new soccer stadium for D.C. United from the sale of city property. She plans to allow the use of public funds to build it, estimating the probability of creating jobs and benefiting local businesses involved with the project. Bowser wants to find a “deal that’s fair” for taxpayers and that minimizes the risk to the city. She continues to push for building affordable housing at the Reeves Center site.
