AAA predicts less traffic for Washington area

AAA predicts that the Washington area will soon be off the “Top 10 worst commutes in the country” list. The reason for the change is the recent overhaul in construction, specifically the two hot lane projects happening in Northern Virginia. “That could just be the silver bullet,” AAA spokesperson Lon Anderson says. “These projects will mean that the Washington area will see an actual drop in its commuting time across the region just because of the impact of those two roads.”
The Beltway hotlane is scheduled to start December this year, with the I 95 hotlane scheduled to be finished in 2015. When done commuters should be able to travel at or near the speed limit, with EZ pass tolling and congestion pricing depending on how heavy the traffic is at that time of day.
