Virginia health officials have revealed that the state has seven confirmed cases of the respiratory enterovirus 68 that has been reported in 16 states so far. The virus can cause severe breathing problems and is mainly being seen in children. Enteroviruses are relatively common, but this strain has not been seen often since it was isolated for study in 1962. No one has died from the virus. The CDC predicts that the virus will continue to spread but that the number of infections will drop later in the year as cold and flu season tapers off. Twenty-eight more children are being tested for the virus.
