Fairfax County considers mandatory anti-smoking classes

0

Officials in Fairfax County are considering mandatory smoking cessation classes for any of it’s employees or new hires who smoke. This suggestion comes after one that would prohibit smokers from being hired, which was struck down by the board as a violation of Virginia law. County supervisors are in discussions regarding how to lower health care costs for their employees after new requirements under the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act take effect in 2014. Gerry Hyland, D-Mount Vernon proposed the mandatory classes, although other board members suggest merely offering them as part of the general wellness campaign is enough.
