Crucial Virginia Senate debate today

0

The race for the Virginia senate hits a turning point today, when both candidates will debate in front of the Fairfax County Chamber. The debate is scheduled at 12 with it being aired regionally across Virginia and D.C. “Meet the Press” host David Gregory will be moderating the debate, with a NBC affiliate and a Washington Post representative. The Fairfax Chamber of Commerce debate has historically been very important in the race for the Virginia senate.

This comes at the news that Democratic candidate Tim Kaine is leading by 7 points against Republican George Allen, results the two sides say are misleading. Kaine sent an email to supporters warning them that the race is tighter than the media is reporting, and warns them not to become complacent. In the history of the Fairfax debate there have been many tense moments. Including former Republican candidate Jerry Kilgore balking at one hypothetical question on abortion before answering another about tax cuts. The late Tim Russert, who was the moderator at the time, criticized Kilgore for the mistake. Kilgore ended up losing the election.
