The Arlington County Board voted unanimously and approved an overnight homeless shelter to be built in the Courthouse neighborhood. The shelter will be available year-round and will include over 50 beds. Five other beds will be included for medical services and another 25 will be provided for winter weather.

The building will cover two floors of the Arlington-owned building and will provide support services as well as dining areas. The shelter is scheduled to open in 2014 and will cost roughly $27 million. The board states they are finally completing their goal of wanting to provide year-round housing for the homeless.
