Ryan Dempster, starting pitcher for the Boston Red Sox was suspended for five games on Tuesday after intentionally throwing at New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez. When Rodriguez stepped up to bat, Dempster’s first pitch went behind Rodriguez’s knees, while the next two pitches came inside. Finally, the fourth pitch hit Rodriguez in the elbow.

After the hit, players from both teams came onto the field, but nothing occurred. However, Yankees manager Joe Girardi had a heated arguement with umpire Brian O’Nora after he issued warnings for both teams and did not eject Dempster from the game. Girardi was fined for the argument.
