Peyton Manning bids farewell to Indianapolis Colts

In a decision that appeared unimaginable a little more than three months ago, on Wednesday the paperwork releasing Peyton Manning from the Colts was finalized. The announcement read, “Indianapolis Colts release quarterback Peyton Manning.” After more than a decade with the franchise, Manning brought, respectively, profit and a Super Bowl championship to the Colts. Due to a neck injury he suffered last year, Manning was out for the entire 2011 football season.

At an emotional news conference, Manning, who will turn 36-years-old this month, said, “I’ve been a Colt for almost all of my adult life. But I guess in life and in sports, we all know that nothing lasts forever. Times change. Circumstances change. And that is the reality of playing in the N.F.L.” Another reality for Manning is how quickly the N.F.L. moves. When Manning’s release from the Colts became official, potential suitors were jostling to catch his eye. Potential suitors include, Miami, Washington, Kansas City, Arizona, Seattle, Jacksonville, the Jets, and according to The Denver Post, the Broncos. Manning is a free-agent and he can join any team, who wants him, at his leisure. According to sports analyst, this could be the most fervent free-agent pursuit in N.F.L. history.
