North Carolina State sends Georgetown University back to the District

President Barack Obama’s prediction of a North Carolina State win came to pass on Sunday, when the Wolfpack claimed victory in a 66-63 win against the District’s Georgetown University. “We just want to keep it going. There’s going to be a lot of people jumping on our bandwagon, people that didn’t think we’d be here right now,” said North Carolina State’s forward Richard Howell. Forwards C.J. Leslie and Scott Wood, along with swingman C.J. Williams, each scored 14 points to lead North Carolina State. Although, it was guard Lorenzo Brown who made three free throws in the final 10.6 seconds of the game, who gripped the win for the Wolfpack. After Brown missed the second of two free throws with 4.6 seconds remaining, Georgetown guard Jason Clark hauled a three-pointer that missed the basket as time perished.

The Georgetown Hoyas were sent back to D.C. with another premature tournament exit. The Hoyas have failed to make it beyond the Round of 32 since 2007, when they reached the Final Four. North Carolina State will move on to the N.C.A.A. Sweet 16 for the first time since 2005. “We had to really defend them well, which I thought we really did. They had a couple of backdoor plays. They’re going to get some of those. We talked about that; that’s what they do. But they didn’t get very many,” North Carolina State’s Coach Mark Gottfried said.
