NHL star Steven Stamkos suffers a leg injury

Center for Tampa Bay Lightning, Steven Stamkos, injured his leg during a team practice on Monday when he slammed into a post. Joe Haggerty of Comcast SportsNet tweeted: “Steve Stamkos crashed hard into the post & his leg took brunt of the impact. He’s down on the ice in a lot of pain.”

Stamkos needed support from the trainers, as well as a stretcher to make it off the ice, and he was then transported to a local hospital. Erik Erlendsson of The Tampa Tribune also commented on Twitter: “They had Stamkos’ right leg raised as he went off on the stretcher . . . don’t want to speculate too much but broken bone seems logical.”

Stamkos will undergo thorough evaluation before any more details are released. His injury could potentially be devastating for Tampa Bay, as he averages more than a point per game.
