Legendary linebacker Junior Seau, who played for the San Diego Chargers, was found dead on Wednesday in an apparent suicide. He was found in a bedroom of his Oceanside, Calif., home with a handgun near his body. He was 43-years-old. Seau’s sorrow stricken mother sobbed loudly as she spoke outside the home just two hours after police were called on Wednesday. “I pray to God, ‘Take me; take me; leave my son,’ but it’s too late,” Luisa Seau cried.
Seau is now the eighth player of the San Diego Charges to die. Bobby Ross, who coached the Chargers during their 1994 season, was one of many people mourning the loss of the legendary linebacker. Ross said, “Junior, to me, was the epitome of what a football player was. Tremendous team player. Tremendous leader. Tremendous leader on our football team.” According to Ross, Seau was the heart and soul of the team in 1994. The Chargers shocked the football world when they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship Game to get to the Super Bowl. Seau’s team-leading 124 tackles led the Chargers’ defense. “I’m totally shocked and very, very saddened by the whole thing,” Ross said.
