Irsay makes a stab at Manning; John Fox responds

Indianapolis Colts owner John Irsay made some twisted remarks about quarterback Peyton Manning, who will soon be joining the team. In an interview with USA Today’s Jarrett Bell, Irsay criticized Manning’s postseason performance and commented on Manning’s disappointing lack of Super Bowl rings. Irsay said in the interview: “We’ve changed our model a little bit, because we wanted more than one of these,” as he pointed to his Super Bowl XLI championship ring. “Brady never had consistent numbers, but he has three of these. Pittsburgh had two, the Giants had two, Baltimore had two and had one. That leaves you frustrated. You make the playoffs 11 times, and you’re out in the first round seven out of 11 time. You love to have Star Wars numbers from Peyton and Marvin and Reggie. Mostly you love this,” he added, pointing to the ring again.

Manning did not comment on the interview, but Denver Broncos coach John Fox expressed his discontent with Irsay’s claims. Fox told Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan on Sirius XM NFL Radio’s Moving the Chains, that the comments “were disappointing and inappropriate.” “They sounded a little ungrateful and unappreciative to me, for a guy that’s set a standard, won a Super Bowl, won division titles, won four MVP awards. I’d be thankful of that one Super Bowl ring, because a lot of people don’t have one,” he added.
