Josh Brent, defensive tackle for the Dallas Cowboys, retired from football on Thursday. He will be taking time to do organize his priorities as well as defend himself for his involvement in a drunken driving accident which killed his college teammate and friend, Jerry Brown in December. His career has been on hold since the accident.

In a statement released by the Cowboys, Brent said, “I am at a point where my main focus is all about getting the priorities in my life in order. Those priorities are more important than football. Doing the right things in life are more important than football. I love the game very much. I love my teammates, but this is the right thing for me to do.” He is charged with intoxication manslaughter and could face up to 20 years in prison.
