Trump drops Republican affiliation

Donald Trump on Thursday changed his voter registration from Republican to “unaffiliated,” out of frustration with his former party members. The change also leaves open the possibility that Trump may choose to run as an independent if he is dissatisfied with the Republican presidential nominee, according to Trump aide Michael Cohen. Cohen added that Trump was “disgusted with the way Republicans are handling” the payroll tax cut extension.

Trump has entertained political aspirations before. In the spring he indicated he would run, before dropping his bid out of unwillingness to give up “The Apprentice.” More recently, Trump cancelled his moderated debate, citing that he did not want to give up his right to run as an independent.
