In a Nevada special election to determine who would fill a seat in the U.S. House, Republican Mark Amodei easily beat Democrat Kate Marshall. Marshall had hoped to win, campaigning as a moderate, but the rural Nevada district has never elected a Democrat. Amodei promised to fight for a balanced budget in Congress.
The special election was the result of a need to fill Republican Dean Heller’s seat, who was appointed to the Senate after Republican John Ensign was forced to resign following a sex scandal.
