U.S. Rep. Donald Payne Jr., D-NJ, died on Wednesday at age 65 after a heart attack. Payne was hospitalized earlier this month after he had a heart attack caused by complications from his diabetes. He has served in Congress since 2012 after he won a special election to succeed his father who died.

Rep. Adam Schiff said in a post, “So saddened by the news that my friend Donald Payne passed away today.” He continued, “Always asking how he could help. Always thinking about others first. He’ll be so missed. My thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.”
