This week opens the first set of new sessions this year, allowing 15 state legislatures to reconvene. This means that 2,398 lawmakers will be getting back to work to propose new policies and fix broken ones. 746 additional lawmakers in Michigan, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania will also begin working this week, although those legislatures meet throughout the year.

Three sessions will begin on Monday and will be followed by six on Tuesday. There will be ten on Wednesday and by the end of this month, there will be 37 legislatures in session. There are only four scheduled not to meet at all this year and they are Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, and Texas. The estimated topics to be discussed during these sessions are expected to range from health care options to same sex marriage. The Senate will also be voting on the extension of the long-term unemployment benefits for an additional 3 months.
