Soul Singer Etta James released from hospital

Jamesetta Hawkins, better known as Etta James, was released from a Southern California hospital on Thursday, according to her manager. James, who is now 73, was hospitalized for two weeks and continues to battle the final stages of terminal leukemia as well as dementia. Paul Wright, a lawyer who represents James’ sons said that she is “nearing the end of her time, but she’s a tough lady.”

Nationally known for her famous soulful song “At Last”, which was song at the inauguration of President Obama, James’ career has been on the climb since she began in the 1950s. Rolling Stone designated her as one of the greatest singers of all time. James’ business manager, Lupe De Leon, said, “She is home with her husband and family by her side. Her condition remains stable.”
