There is a growing concern among smart phone users about how much information becomes available when downloading in app. In all, thirty percent of pollsters say they have removed an app from their phone once they realized how much information was needed. This included GPS location and other personal information. The research was conducted by the Pew Internet and American Life Project. Apps that concerned those in the study included mapping and gaming apps.
In the study, 30 percent of smart phone users turned off their phone’s location tracking feature. 41 percent said they backed up their data on another device. Those with blackberries were more likely to not add apps to their phones, with android and apple uses running about equal with each other. The survey was conducted among 2,254 adults with the sample error being 2.4 percentage points.
