Three out of five men who plotted to blow up a four lane bridge 15 miles from Central Cleveland; Douglas Wright, Brandon Baxter and Connor Stevens have pled guilty to charges including conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction and been sentenced to jail terms. Wright, as the ring leader, was sentenced to 11-and-a-half years, Baxter to just under 10 years, and Stevens to over eight years. The fourth defendant will be sentenced tomorrow and the fifth is receiving a psychiatric evaluation. Their plot was formulated out of anger against the government and corporate America. The group had been under investigation for over a year and was arrested in May in a sting operation. The FBI stated that at no point during the investigation was the public in danger because the explosive devices were in fact nonoperational and being controlled by an undercover agent. While the group was not associated with any foreign terrorists groups, Judge David Dowd, who heard the case, determined that the men should be tried and sentenced as domestic terrorists, which made them eligible for harsher sentences.
