The city of Hoboken, NJ, situated alongside the Hudson River, has sustained heavy flooding from Tropical Storm Sandy. It is estimated about half the city has been directly impacted by the flooding. The city mayor, Dawn Zimmer, requested the assistance of the National Guard late Monday night to help rescue the multitude of people trapped in their homes. Late Tuesday, officials announced on the city’s Facebook page and Twitter account that the Guard would be arriving to assist in the rescue efforts. The Guard will bring with them high-wheeled vehicles with which to conduct rescue operations and transport supplies to flooded areas.
