Special prosecutor Angela Corey announced on Wednesday that she and her team have charged George Zimmerman, 28, a volunteer neighborhood watchman who claims he was acting in self-defense when he shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida, with murder in the second-degree. The charge carries the possibility that Zimmerman could face a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Attorney Corey said Zimmerman has surrendered to Florida authorities and has been arrested. Zimmerman fatally shot Martin, who was unarmed and walking home from a convenience store, on February 26.
