Following a Public Information Act request from the Baltimore Sun, the Maryland State Police have released a figure of the cost spent on security for Gov. Martin O’Malley’s out-of-state trips. The figure, $98,460, includes hotel rooms, meals, travel costs, and overtime for state-provided security while the governor was out of state 26 times between January and September–not included are costs while in nearby out-of-state regions such as DC. Around the clock security has been provided for governors since the 1970s.
