Plans for development projects delayed in Montgomery County

Several development projects in Bethesda are on hold after County Executive Isiah Leggett (D) released his budget for the 2014 fiscal year. Leggett recommended delaying construction of the Bethesda Metro Station South Entrance for six months, and a one-year delay on the construction of a new 2nd District Police Station. Last year, the County Council agreed to allocate $80million extra to build a connection from the new platform to the yet-to-be-built Purple Line Station. With concerns over funding for the light-rail Purple Line, some people are questioning the decision to put aside that much money. Leggett says his plan to delay construction of the Bethesda South Entrance will not interfere with plans to build a connection to the proposed Purple Line Station because that project depends on the actualization of the new line, which has not been confirmed.
