Maryland – Potentially deadly bacteria found at Maryland hospital

0

Officials say they’ve found another instance of potentially deadly bacterium inside a Maryland hospital. The hospital had been shut down earlier this month. Tuesday evening Prince George’s Hospital Center officials announced that the presence of the bacterium Pseudomonas was discovered outside of the neonatal intensive care unit in at least one patient care area. The bacterium was first found in the water pipes on Aug. 9 after two newborns died. An infectious disease expert is investigating whether the two deaths were caused by Pseudomonas. As a precaution, a number of babies were transferred out of the NICU. On Wednesday, crews worked to disinfect the plumbing infrastructure of the entire hospital. It is not known where the bacteria came from.
