The third officer to go on trial for the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray is the driver of the transport van in which prosecutors say Gray suffered fatal injury. Officer Caesar Goodson began trial Thursday, electing for a bench trial. The same judge who acquitted another Baltimore police officer on charges surrounding Gray’s death will decide his case. Goodson faces charges of second-degree depraved-heart murder, second-degree assault, misconduct in office, involuntary manslaughter, manslaughter by vehicle (gross negligence), manslaughter by vehicle (criminal negligence) and reckless endangerment – the most serious of the charges brought forth in the Gray trials.
