Mandatory recycling a possibility in PG County

0

Environmentalists may soon see progress in Prince George’s County, Maryland when lawmakers decide whether to implement increased mandatory recycling standards. This step would be following in the direction of Montgomery County, which leads the state in recycling rates and also requires residents to separate their trash from recyclables. Currently Prince George’s County recycles at about 40 percent–higher than the state minimum requirement of 20 percent, but behind Montgomery County’s 47%.

The measure would require communities and apartment buildings to provide the space and materials for residents to recycle. County officials would like to reach a 60 percent recycling rate by 2020.
