Jack Johnson prosecutors seek tough sentence

Former Prince George’s Country Executive Jack Johnson, who received as much as $1 million in bribes, should receive a prison sentence of up to 14 years. His wife, Leslie Johnson, faces up to 18 months for her role in conspiring with her husband. In Johnson’s pay-to-play extortion scheme, he accepted bribes and kickbacks while channeling money to friends who were developers. He pleaded guilty in May.

“As one of the most egregious and notorious instances of corruption and obstruction of justice in Maryland history, the government submits that Jack Johnson’s criminal conduct calls for a very significant sentence that will promote respect for federal law and deter other public officials from engaging in corruption and obstructing justice,” a sentencing memo said. Johnson is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 6.
