Dinora Hernandez has defeated incumbent Amber Waller for the Prince George’s County Board of Education’s District 3 seat. The votes, which until Thursday were too close to count, relied on absentee ballots to confirm the decision. A batch of absentee ballots remains, although the county election administrator says there are not enough to sway the vote. Hernandez gained 5,698 to the 5,605 received by Waller. Hernandez is one of the two Hispanic board members elected in the election, the firsts to do so. She and the other, Lupi Grady, were chosen by County Executive Rushern L. Baker III to make sure the Hispanic/Latino population of the county is represented on the board.
