Dr. Martin Salia, who worked with Ebola patients in Sierra Leone, where he contracted the disease, died Monday in Omaha, Nebraska from the illness. Salia was transferred to the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha Saturday. At the time of his transfer, Salia was already suffering from advanced symptoms including kidney and respiratory failure, say hospital officials. He was characterized as critical by the team caring for him in Sierra Leone, and his wife, a Maryland resident, pushed to get him evacuated for treatment. He was determined healthy enough to move last week.
