A new report shows that 7 percent of Arlington commutes take place on bicycle or on foot. The report comes from Mobility Lab, a transit research organization funded by the county to analyze the transportation habits of the county’s residents. A smaller 4 percent say all or most of their commutes to work take place on either bicycle or foot. In a previous 2010 study, 7.4 percent commuted by biking or walking. Research Director Stephen Crim said census comparisons between the studies showed a definite uptick in the number of bike or foot commutes, and that the sample size may not have represented that. In any case, the figures show that more Arlington residents are making the effort to commute by bike or foot than by car than before.
