Shashi Arnold, a fifth-grade student at East Silver Spring Elementary School in Montgomery County, was named winner of the MD-D.C. “Doodle 4 Google” contest. The competition asked students to create an image that best expressed the 2014 contest theme: “If I could invent one thing to make the world a better place.” Shashi and her drawing will travel to Google headquarters in California next month, where the finalists will be narrowed to five entries, and an eventual grand prize winner will be named. If awarded the grand prize, Shashi would receive a $30,000 college scholarship and her drawing would be displayed on the Google homepage; her school would be awarded a $50,000 technology grant.
