The teenaged driver of Sunday morning’s fatal crash in Olney, Maryland, revealed to police that he and the passengers of the car were leaving a party at which there was underage drinking.

The crash, at 1:30am Sunday, led to the death of Shawn Gangloff, 15, of Olney, after he was ejected from the back seat of the car in the collision. Austin Donovan Hall, 17, was driving when the car hit a tree, a light pole and a telephone box at Macduff Avenue off of Hines Road. Also in the car was Maxwell Dechter, 17, of Silver Spring, who suffered serious injuries.

Spokesperson for the Montgomery County police Cpl. Rebecca Innocente said that the authorities have not yet confirmed whether the boys had alcohol of drugs in their system at the time of the crash, pending test results. The police visited the house where the party was held, and found that the parents of that home are out of the country. Police found evidence of alcohol consumption and limited drug paraphernalia at the residence.

Police continue to investigate.
