Residents in Prince George’s County are advised to boil water prior to consumption by the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission after a water main break in Hyattsville Tuesday night. Water must be brought to a rolling boil for one full minute before drinking it, making ice, washing dishes by hand, brushing teeth and cooking.

A 59-year-old water main on Tanglewood Drive near Alternate Route 1 broke overnight, causing the problem.

The warning affects close to 100,000 residents across Hyattsville, Bladensburg, Mt. Rainier, Cheverly, Chillum, Edmonston, Landover Hills, Glen Arden, Fairmount Heights, Seat Pleasant and Brentwood. This advisory is in effect for 48 hours. An interactive map of the affected area can be found on their website here.

The WSSC has a 24-hour call center hotline for information and help. If you have any questions, they can be reached at 301-206-4002 or 800-828-6439, or TTY 301-206-8345.
