Microsoft gets rid of its employee-ranking system

0

Microsoft has decided to abandon its controversial system of forcing managers to rank employees, and requiring that they put some under the “underperforming” category. The company has used the system as a way to determine which employees deserve promotions, but some people believe that it created unnecessary competition and tension among employees. Microsoft has said that its new system will put a greater emphasis on individual performance as well as on group work.

In the previous system, 20% of workers were put at the top of the ranks, 70% were marked “adequate” and 10% were “underperforming” and in danger of being fired.
