Amazon announces plan for Sunday delivery

In Los Angeles and New York, online shoppers can already place an order on Amazon.com, and expect to get their package any day of the week – including Sunday. Amazon announced its partnership with the U.S. Postal Service on Monday, and says that NYC and LA are the first cities to get the seven day delivery feature. However, spokeswoman Kelly Cheeseman said that by 2014, the service will extend to other major cities like New Orleans and Dallas.

Cheeseman also said that the Sunday delivery will come at no extra charge, and will have the same shipping fees as all other normal deliveries. Amazon Prime members will even be able to place an order on Friday, and expect to receive it by Sunday. While the U.S. Postal Service is considering going from six-day mail delivery to five-day, it is eager to increase its package delivery, as the number of larger shipments is growing at a faster rate than regular mail. As the more and more people are going online to do their shopping, especially for the holidays, the Postal Service says it will continue to look for arrangements with other retailers.
