A group of roommates have filed a $16 million lawsuit against Prince George’s County after a police officer shot their dog in 2021. According to the lawsuit, the dog was left paralyzed from the shooting and had to be euthanized.

On June 2, 2021, Prince George’s County Police Department officers responded to reports of a dog bite at an apartment building, the officers used a key from an employee and entered an apartment that they believed the animals lived in when they shot the roommate’s dog. The lawsuit claims that the officers illegally entered their home and violated their rights by unlawfully pointing guns and tasers at them.
