Dawit Seyoum pleaded not guilty Thursday by reason of insanity to the September 2014 murdered of Carolyn Cross, a high-ranking Washington, D.C. corrections official, at an Alexandria apartment complex. Two previous charges for Cross’s murder ended in a mistrial when the juries could not come to a decision after a combined 10 days. Prosecutors say Seyoum will now be sent to a secure mental health facility for evaluation and treatment.
