Carbon dioxide emissions were understated, says Volkswagen

Volkswagen stated on Tuesday that the carbon dioxide emission and fuel consumption figures that had shocked so many were understated when taking into account other models. The new figures affect 800,000 vehicles and may cost the company upwards of $2.2 billion. “Volkswagen will endeavor to clarify the further course of action as quickly as possible and ensure the correct [carbon dioxide]classification for the vehicles affected,” the company said in a statement.
