Thousands of volunteers and activists placed one million man-made bones on the National Mall in Washington, D.C last weekend ( June 8-10) as a symbolic mass grave. “One Million Bones” is the public installation project combining public awareness and hands-on artwork to raise awareness of the ongoing genocide and massacres in places like Sudan, The Republic of the Congo, Somalia, and Burma.
For the past three years the “One Million Bones” project has been collecting one million handcrafted bones for a three-day installation event on the mall. The installation will honor victims and survivors, and will serve as a visual petition and statement against ongoing conflicts and a call action from the public.
