The D.C. Council has gathered in regards to creating a grant program to aid college students with tuition costs.

A bill was introduced Tuesday by Councilmember David Catania which proposes up to $100,000 in funds be made available to students for tuition over the next four years.

The lowest income students will have access to the most money and eligible students must live in D.C. for at least four years, obtain a degree from a city school and come from a household with less than $250,000 in annual income.

Nine other council members partnered with Catania in introducing the bill which if approved could cost up to $50 million a year to operate.
