Wednesday morning Virginia lawmakers will reconvene to address and hopefully settle a large-scale transportation funding overhaul. Governor McDonnell’s proposal to eliminate the state gas tax and raise the state sales tax by .8% has been negotiated to a .3% raise in sales tax and a statewide 3.5cent wholesale gas tax.
The General Assembly is scheduled to adjourn on Sunday, but lawmakers have moved steadily toward a favorable compromise while arguing the first major change in how Virginia collects funding for transportation needs since the 1980s.
