The Sheriff’s Office of Frederick County Maryland charged the mother in the case of her toddler son’s death Monday.
The case involving the death of 2-year-old Robert Watkins had originally brought forth the charge of first-degree child abuse on his stepfather, 39-year-old Raymond Brittle. Now the office is charging the child’s mother, 36-year-old Melissa Brittle with second-degree child abuse.
Brittle, who reportedly put her child in her husband’s care around two months ago, has been deemed an accessory to the crime. On September 6 she arrived at the hospital cradling her unconscious child, claiming that he had taken a fall down a flight of stairs.
Brittles husband received his charges September 8.
