A recording, allegedly between Los Angeles Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling and his girlfriend/mistress V. Stiviano that occurred on April 9th, 2014, has leaked to the media. Although the recording has been confirmed as legitimate by Stiviano’s lawyers, the NBA Players’ Association is currently conducting an investigation as to the validity of the conversation. The recording, if found to be true, expresses Sterling’s frustration with his girlfriend and photos on her Instagram account of her and “black people.” During the conversation, the woman says she doesn’t share the man’s views about race. He then tells her “Well, then, if you don’t feel — don’t come to my games. Don’t bring black people, and don’t come,” as well as “It’s the world! You go to Israel, the blacks are just treated like dogs.” NBA players, both past and present, have showed their frustration with Sterling. NBA legend and current majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, Michael Jordan stated “As an owner, I’m obviously disgusted that a fellow team owner could hold such sickening and offensive views. … As a former player, I’m completely outraged. There is no room in the NBA — or anywhere else — for the kind of racism and hatred that Mr. Sterling allegedly expressed.” Prior to their loss to the Golden State Warriors, the entirety of the Clippers’ team warmed up with their shirts inside out to hide the team logo.
