On Monday evening, the Syrian regime will announce the results of its controversial constitutional referendum, created by President Bashar al-Assad and his regime. The referendum is reported by al-Assad’s regime as a move toward reform, according to state-run Syrian Arab News Agency. As the announcement nears, the city of Homs’ Baba Amr neighborhood continues to receive shelling from the Syrian government. An opposition activist in Homs reported seven people were killed on Monday and 55 people were killed across Syria on Sunday, half in Homs.

Catherine Ashton, the European Union (EU) foreign policy chief, said, “Today’s decisions will put further pressure on those who are responsible for the ruthless campaign of repression in Syria. The measures target the regime and its ability to conduct the appalling violence against civilians. As long as the repression continues, the EU will keep imposing sanctions.” It is reported that seven ministers of the al-Assad regime will have their EU assets, as well as assets from the Syrian Central Bank in the EU, frozen and will be denied entry into the EU.
