Officials asks judge to put gun ruling on hold

Officials want a judge to allow D.C. to continue implementing a centerpiece of its handgun-control legislation while a court battle over it is ongoing. Judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr. granted a preliminary injunction in the case on May 18, ordering the city that it had to stop enforcing a provision that requires people to give a valid reason to obtain a license to carry concealed weapons outside their homes and businesses. City officials put in a request for Scullin to stay his ruling and allow D.C. to continue enforcing the provision while it appeals. Back in 2014, Scullin found the city’s ban on carrying guns outside the home unconstitutional. The “good reason” provision was a pivotal piece of legislation city officials adopted in response.
