Former Washington, D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams has been named CEO and Executive Director of the Federal City Council, which is an influential group of business leaders and philanthropists. The Federal City Council works to organize the efforts of the District government, the federal government, and the private sector with the goal of improving the lives of D.C. residents. The former mayor’s leadership was announced on Thursday. Williams will begin his position on July 1, replacing John Hill, who announced last year that he’s stepping aside.

In a statement, Williams said that he will pursue goals including “service efficiency, improved education, revitalized infrastructure and expanded job opportunities.” Williams served two terms as a Democratic mayor for the District. Federal City Council Chairman Linda Rabbitt says having Williams as the head “is almost too good to be true.”
