Richard A. Herman, a DC native, architect, and heir to a railroad fortune died last November at 100 years old. A lifelong philanthropist who has donated money to the Kennedy Center and other D.C. arts programs, began donating to Family Matters of Greater Washington (then Family and Child Services of Washington) in 1967. He began with a $25 yearly donation which he increased as years progressed. It has now been revealed that Herman has left $28million to the charity organization.
Family Matters of Greater Washington is one of the city’s oldest charities, providing services such as counseling for mental health problems and securing child welfare.
