DC council votes ‘yes’ on minimum wage increase

The District of Columbia Council has unanimously voted in favor of raising minimum wages to $11.50 an hour.

The vote took place Tuesday, but is still subject to one more vote before it is to be seen by Mayor Vincent Gray.

Gray has publicly announced his support for an increase in minimum wages from $8.25 to $10 an hour, making the council’s proposal a bit of a stretch.  The mayor did, however, state Tuesday that he hopes to work with the council to come to an agreement on the wage issue.

Montgomery and Prince George’s County approved increasing their minimum wages to $11.50 an hour last month.
